Pennsylvania Barbershop Hosting “Grow-a-Pair” Cut-a-Thon on September 8th & 10th

Nick Prosseda, the visionary behind five Modern Male Barbershops throughout Montgomery County, will be hosting a pair of “Grow-a-Pair” Cut-a-Thon events in September to help raise money for Abington-Jefferson Health while also raising awareness for men’s cancer.

The fundraisers will take place on September 8th at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the new Lansdale location, as well as September 10th from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. George Ortiz Jr.’s American Barber Academy at 110 Morgantown Road in Reading, PA. “Grow-a-Pair” is an annual awareness campaign and fundraising initiative under the Modern Male Barbershop brand since 2012, and 100% of proceeds for the two events — as well as all donations made throughout the month of September — will be donated to Abington-Jefferson Health, which has partnered with Prosseda for the events.

“This is separate from our other cut-a-thon events where we raise funds for area school programs and community non-profits, as we organize this annual campaign to help men receive cancer screening and treatment,” said Prosseda, who lost his father to cancer at the age of 10. “We’ve raised nearly $30,000 over the past several years, and we take every step possible to ensure that our customers get checked out. My dad was 39 when he passed away because he was too proud to get checked out and schedule routine checkups. I’m now 37, and I wonder what my father was thinking at his age as he was lying on his deathbed. As a young boy losing such a pillar in my life, I have struggled, but I believe I am doing the right thing by helping others understand the value of cancer screening and regular examinations.”

The two events will feature discounted haircuts for donations, as well as donated food, drinks and live entertainment. Donations are welcome at the events, as well as until the end of September, which will be donated to Abington-Jefferson Health. Throughout September Prosseda and his team will provide positive messages to the youth, while encouraging all men to make appointments for cancer screening.
